Souvenir 438 Space is proud to present Distance In Between, a group exhibition bringing together international artists exploring existence, artistic practice, and self-discovery.
What happens to human identity as we grow increasingly separated; from ourselves, from one another, from the natural world, even from the act of making art? The artists in this exhibition explore separation in its many forms: between the human and their surroundings, between the artist and the artwork, between who we are and the identities we construct and project. Distance In Between examines the dichotomy between inner and outer worlds, and how that disconnect translates across mediums, from sculpture to painting, and everything in between.
Central to the exhibition is process itself: the way artistic practice leads you somewhere unexpected. That process, active yet vulnerable, working towards something not yet known, unveiling a small truth about the world, is where the exhibition thrives. It turns the question back on us: how we hold each other, how we let vulnerability show, and whether we make room for it at all.
The works on show sit within this tension: presence and image, nature and machine, figuration and abstraction. Surreal, abstracted realities draw the viewer into that same reflective, exposed state, and into a wider conversation about words we use daily but rarely examine: home, spirituality, self.
Several works confront this fracture through repetitive image overload, pointing to a kind of para-social existence, a life increasingly mediated by images of ourselves. What the exhibition ultimately provokes is a search for the point at which we begin living and experiencing, rather than performing disconnected behaviour.
